Ben Stiller lands first lead movie role in six years

Ben Stiller has secured his first leading role in over six years, taking on the comedy-drama Nutcrackers. The news of Stiller’s casting was initially reported by Deadline, which also confirmed that production is currently underway in Ohio.

Directed by David Gordon Green, known for The Exorcist: Believer, Nutcrackers tells the story of Mike (Stiller), a work-obsessed individual whose life takes a turn when he travels to rural Ohio to care for his four nephews following their parents’ tragic car crash.

Despite the initial plan for a three-day trip, Mike finds himself staying much longer as he realizes, after weeks of chaos, that “he doesn’t need to find them a home, they’ve found one for him.”

Apart from starring in Nutcrackers, Stiller is taking on a producer role through his Red Hour Films production company. As of now, a release date and additional casting details are yet to be disclosed.

Renowned for his roles in films like Zoolander (2001) and the Night at the Museum franchise, Stiller made a cameo appearance in the 2022 film Bros. His last lead film roles were in 2017, portraying Matthew Meyerowitz in The Meyerowitz Stories and Brad Sloan in Brad’s Status.

In addition to his acting career, Stiller has been active behind the camera, directing and executive-producing the Apple TV+ series Severance. The critically acclaimed workplace drama is set for a second season, which faced delays due to the Writers Guild of America strikes.

In recent projects, Green directed the reboot of the horror franchise The Exorcist, and The Exorcist: Believer was released in October. He is also set to direct the two planned sequels for the film.

Before his work on The Exorcist, Green partnered with Danny McBride for a trilogy of Halloween films, including Halloween (2018), Halloween Kills (2021), and Halloween Ends (2022).
